A BODY WHICH DRAWS ITSELF

ONE NIGHT STAND
Metro Arts

Performed on the lands of the Jagera and Turrbal People, Meanjin.

A Body Which Draws Itself at Metro Arts, February 2024. This iteration of the work represented its first solo presentation at full scale. The durational performance was accompanied by James Halloran, creating a soundscape responding to the performance.

The 60 minute Durational performance incorporated a number of mobile and stationary drawing apparatuses and introduced a new element: Drawing Costumes. Given that this version of the work was shorter than the usual hours long play, there was a focus on dynamic apparatuses, adaptable costume/rigging and consistent pace of performance.

This iteration of the work continued to focus on the Vitruvian Man, the problems of applying Vitruvian principles of architecture to the human form and explored pathways of liberating physical expressions of the body from this relationship to western, euro-centric canon.
