survive

/səˈvʌɪv/

verb

continue to live or exist, especially in spite of danger or hardship.

continue to live or exist in spite of (an accident or ordeal).

Derived from two Latin Words: Super (meaning above, over or beyond) and Vivere (to live). When combined it reads Supervivere meaning “to live beyond” an event or ordeal.

Anger is a vital part of the survival instinct, closely related to the fight or flight response. The Adrenal glands flood stressor hormones into the body, adrenaline and cortisol, as the brain draws blood away from the stomach and moves it to the muscles. The brain then also raises the heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, body temperature and perspiration, all of this preparing the body for physical exertion. After experiencing a traumatic event it can be difficult to remove the feeling of imminent danger, as a defence mechanism to avoid experiencing another trauma. This prevents the victim from escaping the fight or flight mentality and makes it difficult to release the feeling of anger.
