Every night you repeat the process. You walk the same path, to the same destination and stop at the same half-way marker, a crossroads, a bridge, and a red light. There is a small chance that, from this half-way point, one of these walks will have a different destination to all other identical ones, but that never happens. There was always one step too difficult for you to take that course, so you continued your way, to the same place as always. On the way back you would take the other side of the road, avert your gaze from the different destination and seek enough salvation to see the next 24 hours, until you are back here again.
