If the caterpillar survives this process, they will remain and protect the silk-wrapped pupa. The Caterpillar no longer understands self-preservation. It does not eat, and it does not move except to fight off predators that would harm the parasites that once inhabited its body. It eventually dies of starvation before the new wasps emerge from their web
