A BODY WHICH DRAWS ITSELF 02

Performed on the lands of the Yaggera and Turrbal People.

A Body Which Draws Itself is a project which challenges and consolidates the relationship between the artist, their body and the sense of self.

The second iteration of this work involved a canvas and charcoal on the ground with myself connected by harness, rope, and pulley to four 6kg kettlebells, resulting in a 24kg combined weight, which amounts to 2/5 of my body weight. As the body moved across the canvas the result of the weights and pulley system was such that the body is swung, elevated, and weighted all at once, the apparatus equally helping and hindering the enaction of the work. The mark-making in this performance served as record of the movements made and the physical limitations of the body discovered in this predicament.
